An easier way to measure your gas consumption

Rather than installing a gas flow meter (at a cost of up to $15,000) first check whether there is a spare pulse available on your gas retailer’s meter. If so, this can be used to provide sub-metering data on your gas consumption for much less than the cost of installing a new flow meter.

Out Performers recently accessed the spare pulse available on gas-retailer Jemena’s utility meter for a sub-metering project at a large manufacturing facility. (However, Jemena did require direct supervision of the work.)

We then directed the pulse to an energy management portal service, enabling automation of energy bill check and helping the client to manage the “take or pay” commitments on their gas contract.

By regularly monitoring their gas consumption, the client now has the opportunity to minimise expensive gas over-run charges, such as those mandated in their Annual Contract Quantity (ACQ), Maximum Daily Quantity (MDQ) and annual minimum usage thresholds, in their gas bill.

Get ready to create certificates (ESCs/ACCUs) from savings in your gas consumption, and manage your gas contract’s MDQ and ACQ, by setting up your gas sub-metering systems now. Note that ESCs for gas savings will be allowed under the ESS from 2016, while ACCUs are available from mid-April onwards for gas reduction projects placed in a bid under the Emissions Reduction Fund.
